Kait LaPorte

Biography

Though I didn’t have a passport until I was 25, I have been determined to use it ever since. Traveling internationally and domestically is one of my favorite activities.

I love dogs! My dog, friends’ dogs, strangers’ dogs…you name it. (Pictured from left to right: Kealani, Peaches, and my own pup, Ollie.)

A new drum set — the best quarantine purchase ever!

As a website producer, Kait is the client’s primary contact. She works closely with clients to guide their projects from conception to completion, and beyond. Kait firmly believes that the most successful website projects result from spirited collaboration between the client and Great Jakes, so she does whatever she can to make that collaboration smooth and effective.

Legal Marketer

Kait is a legal marketing veteran, having served as the lead marketer at two firms. While working in-house, Kait gained lots of experience managing web projects and steered the ground-up redevelopment of two websites. She also handled a wide array of other initiatives, including ad campaigns, award processes, and events. Kait is an enthusiastic member of the Legal Marketing Association.

Academic

Prior to her career in legal marketing, Kait earned a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology—the study of music and culture. Her doctoral dissertation was on the evolution of YouTube from obscure family videos to glossy influencer marketing. Her research focused on DIY music videos like those created by Leslie Hall, a trailblazer in the space.

Although the study of ethnomusicology is very different from the world of legal marketing, Kait’s academic experience taught her valuable lessons about culture, language, and human relationships, which she regularly applies to client projects. For example, her study of cultural anthropology has given her keen insights into interpersonal relationships—a helpful skill when navigating law firm power dynamics. Kait regularly uses this knowledge to help clients overcome communication gaps and reach consensus on a creative direction.

Music Lover

Kait is also a musician. She grew up singing, playing piano and flute, and acting in local musical theatre productions. In grad school, Kait was required to learn a new musical instrument every quarter (each from a different part of the world). Her personal favorite was the Javanese bonang: a grouping of little pots that sound like gongs. More recently, Kait has started to learn drum set, a goal of hers since she was a defiant teen with dreams of leading a girl band. When she’s not producing websites or learning drums, Kait is likely at The Crocodile, a Seattle venue famous for its cutting-edge independent music scene.
