The firm: Miles & Stockbridge, a firm with over 100 years of history, 200+ attorneys, and 7 offices in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The challenge: A new leadership team recently took the helm of Miles & Stockbridge.  To mark this shift, the firm wanted a unique website and graphic identity that would be a significant departure from the traditional -- and position them as a dynamic, forward thinking, entrepreneurial firm.

Animated Page transitions

The website was built with animated page transitions, which create a more graceful user experience. This feature is available only to websites built on the newest technology (see below). 

Built with React

The website was built using React, a cutting-edge website technology that is fast becoming the standard for dynamic websites. Integrated Blog

To better leverage its strongest marketing content, the firm created a blog that was integrated into the website. This means that the blog and website share the same database and navigation structure, which offers an array of benefits such as

  • Blog posts are automatically promoted on relevant pages of the site (and vice versa).
  • Blog posts are part of site-search results.
  • Attorney bios feature the full text of the attorney’s blog posts.
  • The website and the blogs can be managed from the same CMS (content management system).

Unique Banner Imagery

The site uses dynamic, irreverent imagery to distinguish Miles & Stockbridge from traditional law firms—and help communicate the “driven” spirit of its attorneys. Taken together, this imagery works to hammer home the firm’s tenets of a tireless work ethic on behalf of its clients, and cutting-edge solutions to business challenges.

Striking Attorney Portraits

To help create an emotional connection with potential clients, new attorney portraits were shot for the website. These portraits, which employ highly dramatic lighting, were photographed on a stark black background (a clear departure from the norm).

Attorney, Service, and Industry Microsites

The website features “attorney microsites”—a unique approach to lawyer bios that was pioneered by Great Jakes. Attorney microsites are, essentially, small websites for each attorney that fit within the firm’s larger website. Attorney microsites can be customized to the specific business development needs of each attorney and contain any number of pages or type of content. Automatic Content Teasing

The website is built with “dynamic content teasing,” an award-winning feature that helps keep visitors engaged by suggesting relevant content. Teasers can be manually curated or set to “automatic mode,” which uses a proprietary algorithm to suggest related content. Content teasers appear within the sidebars as well as in the “Highlights” section located in the footer of every page.
